Why it matters
Doodle coats need time
Doodle coats are lovely and high-maintenance. Curly and wavy fleece holds on to loose hair instead of shedding it, so knots build up close to the skin behind the ears, under the collar, in the armpits and down the legs, often before you can see them from the top.
A rushed salon groom usually deals with that by shaving everything short. Jill works at your dog’s pace in your kitchen, bathroom or lanai, so there is time to brush out what can be saved and to stop for breaks when a young doodle gets wiggly.
Badly matted? Brushing out tight mats hurts. When a coat is pelted, the kinder choice is usually a short clip and a fresh start. Jill will talk it through with you before she begins.

Most doodles are medium to large with a lot of coat, so Jill prices them by size, coat condition and temperament and gives you a clear quote on a quick call before your first visit. No surprise upsells. A coat kept on a regular schedule is quicker and more comfortable to groom than one that has gone months without a brush.

Keeping a doodle coat mat-free
Brush to the skin
Go over the coat with a slicker brush, then follow with a metal comb. If the comb snags, there is a knot underneath that the brush skipped.
Dry after the beach or pool
Salt water, pool water and Florida humidity tighten mats fast. Rinse your doodle and dry them fully, especially the legs and armpits.
Keep a steady rhythm
Most doodle coats do best on a 4 to 6 week schedule. Ask Jill what suits your dog’s coat and the length you like.

Can you give a doodle puppy its first groom?
Yes. A first groom is about building trust: a gentle bath, a tidy of the face, feet and sanitary area, and plenty of breaks, so your puppy learns that grooming is nothing to fear.
My doodle had a bad salon experience. Can you help?
Yes. Many of Jill’s clients came to her after a salon or van groom went badly. One dog at a time, no cages, no barking room, and breaks whenever your dog needs one.
